Continuing Education classes are self-supported; therefore, Bates will cancel a class if there are too few participants enrolled to cover the cost of the class. If your withdrawal notification is given at least one business day prior to the first day of class, or the class is cancelled, you will receive a 100 percent refund. Bates reserves the right to cancel, reschedule class times and/or dates, or change instructors. We will notify you only if class is canceled.

First Aid and CPR Training

This six-hour course meets Labor and Industry specifications and the licensing requirements of the Department of Social and Health Services. CPR is offered from 8-11 a.m., and First Aid is offered from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. All First Aid/CPR training is held at Bates’ South Campus. First Aid only (Item# 7521) $45, CPR only (Item# 7520) $45, or both First Aid and CPR for $55. BLS Provider (formerly called Healthcare Provider is $60 and is from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

LPN Self-Study Refresher, PNRS 121
This class is for LPNs who hold an inactive or lapsed LPN license for three or more years, and who must complete an approved refresher program before receiving an active LPN license for the state. Students with an inactive or lapsed license must provide a limited educational license prior to beginning any clinical work. This course meets Washington State Department of Health objectives for the four- and seven-hour HIV/Bloodborne Pathogens education requirement for credentialed healthcare providers and non-credentialed healthcare facility employees. Do not register for this course if registering for Phlebotomy Program (it is already included in that course).

Phlebotomy Program, PNURS 292
This program is set up to meet the State of Washington Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist License requirements. It also meets the needs for student so take the NHA national certification exam. The course includes HIV/AIDS training, basic Anatomy and Physiology, medical terminology, how to avoid pre-analytical errors, and how to be successful in collecting blood samples. You will learn how to collect blood samples using all of the tools currently being used in the Laboratory industry. You will collect blood samples from fellow students as well allowing fellow students to collect blood from you to help everyone in class to meet the objectives in the class. You will learn how to process samples to get them ready for analysis. You will learn how to deal with age specific needs of patients, customer service, special collections, and non-blood samples. This is the prerequisite to the Advance Phlebotomy Program. Limited to 25 participants. Text is approximately $160. As of July 1, 2016 a $75 fee (not paid to Bates) will be required for all students to access the MultiCare/Franciscan Healthcare System in order to complete the mandatory HIPAA training needed to receive the Medical Assistant-Phlebotomy credential through the State of Washington. Advanced Phlebotomy Program, PNURS 293
Advanced Phlebotomy Packet Advanced Phlebotomy Clinical Passport
Take vitals, perform EKGs, and participate in 120 hours of externship (20 hours per week) in the fourth through ninth weeks of class. Health insurance, proof of Hepatitis B shots, influenza vaccine, proof of MMR or immunity, proof of Quantiferon Gold test in last 6 months, proof of Varicella Zoster immunity and proof of Tdap in the last 10 years are required. A Washington State Patrol background check will be completed (included in tuition and non-refundable). Results from a national criminal background check are also required (at an additional cost). A urine drug screen may also be required (not included in tuition). The drug screen will also include nicotine testing. Externship locations are off-campus and may require travel beyond the normal commute to attend class. The student is responsible for any travel costs associated with the externship. Prerequisite: Bates Technical College Phlebotomy Program. Anyone that completed the Phlebotomy Program course more than 12 months prior, will have to pay $50.00 (not paid to Bates) for access to the CPNW (Clinical Placements Northwest) education website. NHA Phlebotomy Test, PNRS 095
Take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) certification exam to become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician. NHA is accredited through National Commission for Certifying Agencies. You must register and pay Bates. Online test scheduling is also required at www.nhanow.comPrerequisite: Bates Technical College Phlebotomy Program.

Nursing Assistant Program, CTNA 101
The Nursing Assistant Program (NAP) course prepares students for employment as a nursing assistant under the supervision of professional licensed nurses. Upon successful completion, students are eligible to take the Washington state written and manual skills examination before becoming a Nursing Assistant-Certified. Current immunizations, healthcare provider (CPR) certification (not included in tuition) and health insurance are required.
